University open as normal today and all examinations will take place Wednesday 23 January 1415 update

The University of Bath is open as normal on Wednesday 23 January.  There has been some snowfall on campus overnight and earlier this morning but it has not been snowing on campus for a few hours.  Roads are reasonably clear. Estates staff have cleared access routes around the car parks and will be re-gritting these shortly.  The bus companies are running near-normal services to campus.

All examinations scheduled for today will take place. All examinations for this week have been put back by 30 minutes from their originally-scheduled start-times (e.g. 9.30am exams to 10am, 1pm to 1.30pm and 4.30pm to 5pm).

Some surfaces remain slippery/ icy. Staff, students and visitors are advised to take great care when using paths and car parks on campus. Please be alert for slippery, wet floor surfaces in the entrances to buildings.

Staff should make every possible effort to attend work in the interests of maintaining a normal service. Those reliant on public transport should use the first available service if there are early morning cancellations.

Whilst fresh snowfall on campus today has been modest, in some surrounding areas it has been heavier.  Staff (other than those required for examinations) are free to leave early with their manager’s permission if they consider that advisable. We do appreciate that some staff and students will have had difficult journeys home yesterday as the roads around Bath became quickly gridlocked.

The University’s guidance on staff attendance during severe weather conditions is available online.  Staff who are able to work from home are able to do so with their manager’s permission; staff will otherwise need to take unpaid or annual leave.

Catering and retail outlets will, as far as possible, be open as normal. The Nursery and Sports Training Village are open.

Further light snow is forecast for this afternoon.  The Emergency Management Team will continue to keep the situation under careful review.

The University takes the health and safety of its students very seriously and as such has taken and will continue to take additional action as and where necessary to make the campus as safe as is reasonably possible.  All students and staff are reminded to take care when moving around on campus and to stick to cleared roads and pathways.  Sensible footwear and warm clothing is recommended.

No snow is currently forecast for Bath for Thursday and Friday and it is therefore expected that we will be open as normal.  An announcement will, however, be posted on the University website by 7.30am on Thursday morning to indicate whether or not the campus will be open and examinations taking place. The University's severe weather helpline (a recorded message) will also be updated on 01225 383200.

Rescheduled examinations

As previously communicated, the University is actively considering all possible options for new dates for those examinations which have already been postponed from Friday January 18th and from yesterday. All students affected are advised that a final decision on new dates is being made in consultation with the Students' Union.  Rescheduled dates will be announced by Friday this week.  Rescheduled exams will not be before 4 February.
