Praise for students and staff who helped those stranded in the snow

The Vice-Chancellor’s Office received a phone call yesterday afternoon from Eric Snook, a well known member of the Bath community, wanting to pass on his thanks and gratitude to students and staff who stopped to help him when he got into difficulties on Bathwick Hill on Tuesday evening.

Mr Snook said that when his car became stuck in the snow eight to ten people walking down the hill did their best to assist him and others. He wanted the Vice-Chancellor to know what excellent ambassadors for the University they were.

Web editor Justin Owen, one of the good samaritans who helped move cars to the side of the road, said: “Rob, a Mechanical Engineering student, Callum, a student from Prior Park College and I spent around two hours helping people on the hill.

“It was just sheet ice. We were using things like cones and recycling bin lids to scrape the snow and ice off the road to make tracks for the cars to move to the pavement.

“Rob even had an exam the following day – he is a credit to the University.”
