New student accommodation building update

The new student accommodation building took a step closer to completion this month when Laing O'Rourke was awarded the construction contract.

Martyn Whalley, Director of Estates, said: “All the submissions in response to the tender were of a particularly high quality, but we now look forward to a successful completion of the project with Laing O'Rourke.”

The building, designed by Stride Treglown, will provide 708 en-suite student bedrooms bringing the number of beds available on campus to 3,200.

It will also be home to a new refectory capable of seating up to 350 people, as well as a café, bar, pizza and pasta eatery and fresh food delicatessen.

The new student accommodation is due to open in 2014 and is part of our £100m campus investments programme which includes the General Teaching Accommodation building, the new Centre for the Arts and the 1 West refurbishment.
