New appointment strengthens media technology research

The University’s Department of Computer Science has appointed Professor Brian Wyvill, further strengthening its media technology research.

Professor Wyvill joins us in Bath from the University of Victoria in Canada, where he was a Canada Research Chair, and carried out work in the field of computer based 3D geometric modelling for use in computer animation.

On appointment at Bath he has been awarded a prestigious Royal Society Wolfson Merit Research Award which will support his work for the next five years.

Here at Bath we have a strong presence in the field of digital media, and in addition to a broad research programme we are home to an EPSRC funded Doctoral Training Centre that creates innovative funded research and development projects for the games, animation, VFX, simulation and cultural industries.

Commenting on the appointment, Professor Phil Willis, Head of the Department of Computer Science, said: “Professor Wyvill brings a wealth of research experience to Bath that will add to our already strong portfolio of media technology research projects.

“We are increasingly recognised by industry partners for our work in this field and this high-level appointment supports our reputation for quality research.”
