University’s US Alumni to fund new IPR Visiting Fellowships

The recently launched Institute for Policy Research (IPR) will benefit from two Visiting Fellowships, thanks to funds provided by University of Bath alumni based in America.

The two new posts will help the IPR to build links between academics and policy-makers on both sides of the Atlantic, helping the Institute to foster interdisciplinary research of international excellence and impact. Visiting Fellows will provide guest lecturers, lead discussion work and help the IPR to establish a global network.

The first post will fund the appointment of a Visiting Fellow from outside academia in the UK but with direct experience of policy-making. Their appointment will help to bring a valuable, real world perspective to the Institute’s research and teaching.

The second post will fund the appointment of an International Visiting Fellow - an internationally-renowned academic from a leading US University. This post will help foster links and provide a greater opportunity for dialogue between the University and the US, both in terms of its alumni network and the wider policy world.

Commenting on the launch of the new Fellowships, IPR Director Professor Graham Room, said: “I am delighted that the University’s US alumni network has agreed to fund these two Fellowships for the IPR. The Visiting Fellows will bring an invaluable addition to our work, helping to the raise the profile of the Institute and building exciting international ties.”

There are currently 1700 former University of Bath students based in America engaged in its alumni network. Their support is channelled through the University of Bath Foundation Ltd, an alumni led non-profit (501c3) allowing US alumni to make tax efficient gifts to support the work of the University. It is hoped that through the appointment of a new International Visiting Fellow there will be new ways to engage and involve University alumni, including through international events.

Further details about how to apply will be available later in the year.
