It is time to give our new general teaching building a name and I am pleased to announce that it will be known as “The Chancellors’ Building”. Construction of the building itself is progressing well with the opening date of October 2013 very much on track.
Choosing to name a building in honour of our chancellors reflects the important role that the four chancellors the University has had up until now have played in its history, and anticipates the significance of our next Chancellor HRH The Earl of Wessex.
It is planned that the building will be officially opened by The Earl of Wessex later this year. We will publish further details of this event nearer the time.
Work on the new student accommodation buildings next door has also begun in earnest and, at long last, it is anticipated that we will soon have planning permission for our new Centre for the Arts.
Of course, such major investment in our infrastructure means a very busy campus and I am grateful for everyone’s patience and co-operation during this period.
However, as the buildings start to take shape in front of our eyes, I hope you share my belief that they will provide first class facilities for our staff and our students.
Thank you,

Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell DBE DL
Vice-Chancellor
