Professor Richard Guy from the Department of Pharmacy & Pharmacology has been awarded this year’s Controlled Release Founders Award.
The Controlled Release Society (CRS) grants this honour to a current CRS member who is “internationally recognized for outstanding contributions in the science and technology of controlled release”.
Professor Guy’s research focuses on the barrier function of skin, transdermal drug delivery, iontophoresis – the process of using a small electric charge to deliver medicine through the skin – and the prediction and assessment of skin penetration and drug absorption.
His recent paper, published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, demonstrated the ability to probe corneocytes – the predominant cell type in the epidermis of the skin – with a nanoneedle.
Professor Guy will pick up his award and give his award lecture – Skin: The Finest Clothing Made – at the Opening Session of the CRS Annual Meeting on 22 July at the Hawaii Convention Center, Honolulu.
