ACE builds on existing foundations in Brazil

Our Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering (ACE) will welcome a representative of São Paulo’s Architecture and Urbanism College on July 19.

The visit by Professor Dr Paulo Eduardo Fonseca de Campos from the Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo de Universidade de São Paulo (FAUUSP) aims to build on established links with the Brazilian university, with whom we recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

Professor Tim Ibell, Head of Department, said: “This is an excellent opportunity to discuss possible research and teaching links between ACE and FAUUSP, as well as another of our preferred partners, the University Institute of Lisbon, with whom we are creating a new Erasmus Exchange.”

The visit is particularly timely as the UK-based Building Research Establishment has recently set up a new Centre of Excellence in Brazil to complement its existing five centres, the biggest of which is here at the University.

Professor Ibell said: “The most important aspect of the visit is to bring us closer together. Remote dialogue is only truly possible after a successful initial face-to-face meeting, in my opinion.

“I am looking forward to the exciting collaborations this visit will forge.”

The visit will be led by Professor Ibell, supported by Dr Paul Shepherd, Dyfed Griffiths, Professor Alex Wright, Dr Andrew Heath and Dr Antony Darby.
