Developing public engagement with research – survey

A message from Dr Joanna Coleman, Head of Public Engagement:

Public engagement with research is an important aspect of the University of Bath’s mission. If we involve and listen to the public then our decisions and research should be more responsive, and more likely to have a positive impact in return.

The Public Engagement Unit was set up at the University last year. At its inception, we undertook a baseline survey to gain a better understanding of what people think about public engagement, what activity is taking place, where and how it is happening, and who is involved.

We would now like to repeat the survey to gain a measure of the progress that we have made, to highlight areas for improvement, and to help shape our plans for the coming academic year.

The survey is aimed at all research staff within the University and should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete. It will give you a chance to tell us what you think about public engagement and what you are doing if you are involved. We will then be able to tailor our work to help people fulfill their public engagement ambitions. The survey can be accessed here:

The survey will be available from 8 July until 13 September. Additional information-gathering steps will involve other members of the University community, and will include in-depth interviews and focus groups about public engagement activity at Bath.

We really appreciate you giving your time to complete the survey. If you’d like to get in touch to talk with us about your engagement activities, please email Joanna Coleman or Ed Stevens.
