Pharmacy & Pharmacology’s prescription for success

Postgraduates from the Department of Pharmacy & Pharmacology recently celebrated receiving their Independent Prescribing Programme Practice Certificates at the Pharmacy prize-giving ceremony.

Peter Alvey, Lisa Bullock, Alastair Graham, Katherine Jones, Dalia Morgenstern, Sally Munden, Nicola O’Brien, Sharon Watts and Linda Porter – who had the rare opportunity of graduating with her son Matthew Burnett who received his MPharm (hons) at the same ceremony – are now recognised by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as suitable for annotation as Independent Prescribers.

Dr Andrea D. J. Taylor, Director of Studies for Taught Postgraduate Programmes within the Department of Pharmacy & Pharmacology, said:  “This Practice Certificate is an important qualification for pharmacists.  Each of these Postgraduates has worked hard, balancing career, family and detailed study.  We congratulate all of them!”

The Pharmacy Prescribing Programme is a seven month course which is accredited by the GPhC. The course is designed to help students achieve annotation as an independent prescriber.

The course is delivered by blended learning – which includes online study guides and face-to-face study days to help improve practice consultation and communication skills – and is designed to fit in around the work and life commitments of those working in the hospital and community sectors.

The programme supports those who are trying to work and learn at the same time. Details of the programme, funding and start dates can be found at: http://www.bath.ac.uk/study/pg/programmes/phar-pres-prog
