UK Outward Student Mobility Strategy

A new Government-backed initiative launched this week aims to encourage students from the UK to take up opportunities to study and work overseas.

The UK Outward Student Mobility Strategy has been developed by the UK Higher Education International Unit – with initial funding by the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills – to help students gain international experience.

The Strategy comes at a crucial time as a recent CBI report shows that nearly half of employers are dissatisfied with graduates’ international cultural awareness, and over half, with their foreign language skills.

Professor Colin Grant, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Internationalisation, said: “International experience has always been an advantage to graduates, but as the international marketplace grows increasingly competitive this experience is becoming vital.

“The national Mobility Strategy is well-aligned with our International Strategy. Our Strategy will help give students from the University and its partners around the world the edge needed to compete globally and to build international relationships for future collaborative work. Mobility = Employability.”
