Volunteers needed for confirmation and clearing helpline

Message from Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Kevin Edge

Dear colleagues,

We are fast approaching one of the most critical points in our academic calendar – the publication of ‘A’ level results.

We would like to ensure that all prospective students receive a positive experience of our telephone helplines when they call to discuss their results and options.

We already have a number of volunteers available to answer phone calls but the more volunteers we have, the faster our response times will be.

If you would be interested in participating in this key student recruitment activity, please contact Liz Simmons by e-mail, E.Simmons@bath.ac.uk

The call centre will be in operation on Thursday 15, Friday 16 and Monday 19 August 2013.  The call centre volunteers will be assigned shifts between 7.30 (calls from 8.00) – 17.00 on the Thursday and Friday and during normal office hours on Monday.

The shifts on Thursday and Friday will be 7.30 – 12.30 and 12.00 – 17.00.

Most of the calls we receive will be from students who wish to check if their place has been confirmed, or whether we have any places available through clearing.

We’re keen to have people who have strong communication and people skills, who will be good at dealing with individuals who may be disappointed with their ‘A’ results and, potentially, the bad news that they do not have a place at the University.

Admissions will be running training sessions for the call centre during the weeks commencing Monday 5 August and Monday 12 August.

Thank you.

Professor Kevin Edge

Deputy Vice-Chancellor
