Bath-Yonsei partnership strengthened with delegation visit

A delegation of visitors from Yonsei University are in Bath this week strengthening our ties with South Korea’s oldest private university.

In June a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies (CSCT) and the Global E3 Institute at Yonsei to help further international collaboration on sustainable science and engineering research.

Last Friday, the CSCT held a workshop on energy materials at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution led by Dr Aron Walsh, where 10 participants from Bath and Yonsei University each presented their research. This included Suhyun Yoo, one of the first recipients of the Bath Global Partner Scholarship.

This week Professors Aloysius Soon, Heon-Jin Choi and Cheolmin Park from Yonsei are attending the 3-day Summer Showcase for the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies, taking place from Monday to Wednesday. The Yonsei academics will deliver a joint presentation on Tuesday about the latest research in their Centre and new opportunities for collaborative research and education.

Director of the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies, Professor Matthew Davidson said: "It is a real pleasure to welcome the delegation of staff and students from Yonsei to our summer showcase event this year. International research collaborations with prestigious partners such as Yonsei University are a vital part of our activities and I look forward to fruitful scientific discussions over the next few days. I am sure these will lead to some exciting new projects to cement our growing relationship."

Pro Vice Chancellor for Internationalism, Professor Colin Grant, added: "The CSCT Showcase is a perfect example of internationalisation in action. There are already strong links between CSCT and the GE3 at Yonsei. Yonsei University is one of the University's preferred strategic partners and one of the pre-eminent universities in Asia. Alongside materials chemistry collaboration, we have developed links in political science, social policy, management and engineering."

Professor Choi from Yonsei said: "We are very much looking forward to strengthening the research and education efforts between the CSCT and GE3I.   Bath is clearly on an upward trajectory and we, Yonsei, would like to be part of this journey."
