We move up to ninth in the new Complete University Guide

Our students have been ranked as the most satisfied in the UK in the 2014 Complete University Guide.

The Guide’s new league table also sees the University move up a place on last year to ninth out of 124 universities across the UK.

The table combines scores for nine quality factors used to assess a university’s overall performance.

Our strong showing has helped to cement the University’s place in the top ten nationally and to maintain our position as the highest ranked university in the South West.

As well as being ranked equal first for student satisfaction we are equal third in the UK for degree completion rates, ninth for graduate prospects, and ninth in the UK for the percentage of our graduates achieving a first or upper second class honours degree.

Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bath, said: “In the last week two different national rankings have provided further confirmation of the all-round quality of the education and supportive learning environment we offer at Bath.

“This is thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of our staff who create a strong community atmosphere on campus. Our graduates are well-rounded, engaged individuals with excellent knowledge, skills and experience who thrive during their time here.”

Dr Bernard Kingston, principal author of The Guide, said: “League tables viewed in isolation carry a health warning for good reason and the order towards the lower end of the ranking should be treated with some discretion. What is beyond dispute is that the Top Ten includes some of the world’s finest higher education institutions.”

The Complete University Guide is compiled using the following nine measures:

  • Student satisfaction
  • Research assessment
  • Entry standards
  • Staff student ratio
  • Spending on academic services
  • Facilities spending
  • Good honours
  • Graduate prospects
  • Completion rates

Individual subject rankings have also been published in the guide. The subject rankings have been created using the following four measures: student satisfaction; research assessment; entry standards; graduate prospects.

The University appears in the top ten in no less than 18 out of the 26 subjects offered at Bath, with two subjects Architecture and Accounting & Finance) topping their respective tables as the number one place to study the subject in the UK.
