Changes to structure of the Registry

Message from Professor Bernie Morley, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching):

I would like to thank everyone who took part in the formal consultation process on the changes to the structure of the Registry for their involvement and their contributions. The feedback that we received was supportive of the reasons for change and the main thrust of the changes being proposed in response.

The services which were organised under the Widening Participation Office and the Registry will separate into three distinct services each reporting directly into the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching).

The three separate constituent services will be:

  • Careers Service
  • Academic Registry, including the Student Records & Examinations Office (SREO).
  • Student Recruitment & Access Office, made up of the Admissions Office, Widening Participation Office, and the Learning Partnerships Office.

These three departments will continue to work very closely together and with the other student-facing professional services and the academic departments, Faculties and School.

The new structure is shown below. (Double click for larger image)

In summary the changes are as follows:

  • Deputy Academic Registrar – becomes Director of the Academic Registry and reports to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching);
  • Head of Admissions – no change in job title. Reports to the Director of Student Recruitment & Access;
  • Head of Widening Participation – no change in job title. Reports to the Director of Student Recruitment & Access;
  • Head of Learning Partnerships – no change in job title. Reports to the Director of Student Recruitment & Access;
  • Head of the Careers Advisory Service – becomes Head of the Careers Service and reports to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching);
  • Senior Assistant Registrar (Student Records & Examinations Office) – becomes Head of Student Records & Examinations and reports to the Director of the Academic Registry;

  • Personal Assistant to the Academic Registrar – becomes Personal Assistant to the Director of the Academic Registry and the Director of Student Recruitment & Access and reports to the Director of the Academic Registry.

The University will advertise the post of Director of Student Recruitment & Access in early 2014.

The Careers Service became a separate department with effect from 2 January 2014.

Other reporting changes will be implemented once a Director of Student Recruitment & Access is recruited and inducted into the role
