Official launch of Richard Woods' public art commission

A reception took place in The Chancellors’ Building last week to officially launch and celebrate Richard Woods’ public art commission New Growth No.3.

The work was commissioned by ICIA and can be seen on the hoardings opposite Solsbury Court, near the East Car Park.

The reception was attended by staff as well as members of the public interested in Richard’s work. Speeches were made by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Kevin Edge, Creative Producer for Visual Arts at ICIA, Lindsay Hughes, and gallerist Simon Morrissey of WORKSPROJECTS, Bristol.

ICIA commissioned Richard Woods to make an artwork to help create a lively creative environment for students and staff whilst construction work takes place.

Artist, Richard Woods, Creative Producer for Visual Arts, Lindsay Hughes and the Director of ICIA, John Struthers.

Over 100m of hoardings have been painstakingly hand stencilled by the artist and a team of assistants.

This is one of a number of public artworks commissioned by ICIA for the hoardings across campus under the banner of the ‘4th Gallery’.

A graduate of Slade School of Fine Art, London, Woods operates on the boundaries of art, architecture and design and has been commissioned to create permanent works across the globe.

We are proud to announce that New Growth No.3 was also also selected for the top picks in The Guardian Guide this weekend.

The artwork will be on display until Fri 9 May. For further info visit ICIA website.
