New pay supplement introduced

The University has agreed to implement a pay supplement for all 247 permanent and fixed term members of staff (including apprentices) who are currently paid at an hourly rate which is below £7.65 an hour (the current level of the ‘Living Wage’).

This is one of the actions resulting from the work led by the Director of Human Resources around the theme of ‘Pay and Conditions’ identified in the 2013 Staff Survey and also in response to concerns raised by the trade unions.  The Vice-Chancellor, at our last ‘Let’s Talk’ meeting, confirmed that the University was actively exploring this.

The supplement, which has been agreed with the trade unions, will be implemented from 1 April 2014 and renegotiated on an annual basis.

The 247 members of staff directly affected have been individually informed.
