Volunteers needed for our Confirmation & Clearing Helpline

A message from Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Kevin Edge:

Dear colleagues,

We are fast approaching one of the most critical points in our academic calendar – the publication of A-level results.

In order to ensure that all prospective students receive a positive experience of our Confirmation and Clearing telephone helpline we are dependent upon the help of staff volunteers.

A number of staff members have already been kind enough to volunteer to answer phone calls, but the more volunteers we have the faster our response times will be.

Most of the calls will be from students who wish to check if their place has been confirmed, or whether we have places available through Clearing.

The call centre will be in operation on Thursday 14, Friday 15 and Monday 18 August 2014, and we are particularly keen to hear from members of staff who would be willing to volunteer to work one or two of the following shifts:

Thursday 14 August: 7.30am–12.30pm (calls from 8am)
Thursday 14 August: 12 – 5pm
Friday 15 August: 7.30am–12.30pm (calls from 8am)
Friday 15 August: 12 – 5pm

If you would be willing to support this key student recruitment activity, please contact Steven Lawrence (Admissions): S.G.Lawrence@bath.ac.uk.

We’re keen to hear from people with strong communication and people skills, who will be good at dealing with individuals who may be disappointed with their results and, potentially, the bad news that they do not have a place at the University.

Admissions will be running a number of short training sessions in order to prepare volunteers to answer Confirmation and Clearing queries.

Thank you.

Professor Kevin Edge

Deputy Vice-Chancellor
