Mike Nicholson has joined us in the new role of Director of Student Recruitment & Admissions.
Mike was previously Director of Undergraduate Admissions & Outreach at the University of Oxford and before that Head of Recruitment & Admissions at the University of Essex.
His career has focused on undergraduate admissions, student recruitment, and widening participation. He is the UK Chair of the Higher Education Liaison Officers’ Association (HELOA), a member of the UCAS Council, and serves on the OCR Qualifications Committee.
The Admissions Office (headed by Dr Katherine Lloyd Clark), the Widening Participation Office (headed by Annette Hayton) and the Learning Partnerships team (headed by Martine Woodward) will all report to Mike.
Mike said: “It’s great to be back in Bath as I came to the University to stay for a family holiday in the early 1980’s as an impressionable teenager. It was my parents’ attempt to help me engage with the idea of going to university and served as my own personal widening access summer school.
“The University has obviously grown a huge amount since then, but it’s retained all the things that are good about a campus. I’ve been struck by the commitment and loyalty of staff here and how engaged everyone is.
“I am excited about working with my teams, having seen their professionalism working on both outreach events and during Confirmation when the A-level results were published.”
Mike was recently interviewed by the BBC on his work on Oxford’s admissions process.
