Support your local nursery with a Christmas card

Planning to buy charity Christmas cards this year? Why not support a cause close to home and buy cards to support the University’s nursery?

Parents of children at the University’s Westwood Nursery have printed Christmas cards featuring paintings by the children to sell to raise extra funds for the nursery.

They are selling packs of ten cards for £5 and hope to raise money to buy a slide and climbing frame for the older children and to improve the outdoor garden used by the babies.

Currently the children aged two years and above use the woodland on campus for “Forest School” activities where they have a safe place to explore the outdoors and learn about nature. The nursery would like in the future to provide a similar experience for the younger babies and so plan to improve the babies’ existing garden with plants to touch and smell and help them enjoy the outdoors in a safe space.

Dr Petra Cameron, parent of two children at the nursery and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, helped produce the cards. She said: “We’re really lucky to have an outstanding nursery at the University, providing childcare on campus for children of staff and students as well as the public. It is so popular it is often over-subscribed.

“However, the nursery is non-profit making so we thought we’d help raise some extra funds to buy urgently needed new play equipment as well as raising awareness of this important resource with the rest of the University community.”

The cards will be on sale alongside home-made cakes in the foyer of the Claverton Rooms on lunchtime Tuesday 9 December. They will be available at the fruit and vegetable market outside Wessex House and sold outside the library in the run up to Christmas.

Alternatively you can e-mail Petra Cameron or Marcelle McManus.
