Free public lecture on Sustainability

A free public lecture on Thursday 26 February will explore how professionals can best develop their own sustainable development strategies for their employers or own businesses.

The lecture will take place from 6-7pm in the Chancellor’s Building, room 1.10 at the University of Bath. This talk is open to everyone but will particularly be of interest to professionals who are currently developing sustainability initiatives within business and will provide an excellent opportunity to network with sustainability professionals and organisations.

This event follows the delivery of Bath's MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) ‘Make an Impact: Sustainability for Professionals’ which started on 12 January and was led by Dr Emma Emanuelsson.

Those attending the lecture will hear from four keynote speakers; Dr Emma Emanuelsson and Dr Tim Mays (both from the Department of Chemical Engineering), Dr Steve Cayzer (from the Department of Mechanical Engineering), and Dr Krista Bondy (from the School of Management).

Each speaker will cover the following areas:

  • Dr Emma Emanuelsson will provide an introduction to the MOOC and highlight some of the diverse areas where we conduct sustainability research here at Bath.
  • Dr Krista Bondy will talk about how sustainability is perceived within management literature and also discuss key areas of debate such as whether or not current business models are sufficient to deal with social and environmental issues.
  • Dr Tim Mays will cover the sustainability research being conducted at Bath referencing our research into sustainable alternatives for fossil fuel feedstocks, and the future for hydrogen energy.
  • Dr Steve Cayzer will discuss the relationship between sustainability and innovation.

Looking ahead to the lecture, Dr Emanuelsson commented: “The lecture will be an opportunity to get an insight into the wide range of research into sustainability taking place at the University of Bath, a chance to ask academics and senior researchers questions on a range of sustainability topics as well as to network with other sustainability professionals.”

For those unable to attend this event, the lecture will be streamed live and also recorded. The lecture can be watched live at and for those watching online, questions for the speakers can be asked via Twitter using the hashtag #FLsusdevbath.
