New Pro-Vice-Chancellors announced

The University is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Jonathan Knight as our new Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), and Professor Peter Lambert as our new Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching).

Professor Jonathan Knight

Professor Knight is currently the Associate Dean for Research in the Faculty of Science, a position he has held since 2013.

He will take on the post from 1 August 2015 for a three-year period, and will succeed Professor Jane Millar who has fulfilled the role with distinction for the past seven years.

Professor Knight said: “It’s an honour to be taking the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) in these exciting times. The REF results demonstrate how much outstanding work has been done at Bath, and I’m looking forward to working with our excellent academic and professional staff to make sure that our research continues to grow and thrive.”

Professor Lambert is currently the Associate Dean (Learning & Teaching) in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

He will take on the post from 1 July 2015 for four years and succeeds Professor Bernie Morley who started in his new role as our Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Provost earlier this month.

Professor Lambert said: “It is a great privilege to be entrusted with this role. Bath has established a tremendous reputation over the past decade as a leader in the field as highlighted by our consistently high positions in national league tables.

“I very much look forward to working with students and colleagues from across the University to ensure that learning, teaching and the student experience as a whole will continue to flourish alongside our world-leading research.”

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell, said of the two new appointments: “I am delighted to welcome both Jonathan and Peter to the senior management team, and look forward to working closely with them as we head towards our 50th anniversary next year.

“They will be able to build on the excellent work and results achieved by both Professor Jane Millar and Professor Bernie Morley in the past few years.

Professor Peter Lambert

“Their promotion is testament to the wealth of talent we already have here at the University.”

Professor Knight joined the University in 1996 as a lecturer in the Department of Physics having previously been a postdoctoral researcher at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton.
