Bath again named top five UK university in the Guardian University Guide 2016

The University of Bath, for the second year running, has been ranked in the top five of the UK’s universities and colleges in the Guardian University Guide 2016, published today (Tuesday 26 May 2015).

With the highest student course satisfaction and third highest graduate employability prospects in the UK, Bath has again been named the best performing university in the South West.

This success builds on the University’s recent achievements having come top in both the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey and NSS Student Satisfaction Survey, as well as the REF (Research Excellence Framework) 2014 research assessment in which 87 per cent of the University’s research was recognised as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.

At subject level, Bath has performed extremely well with Sports Science, ranked the best in the country. Psychology, Sociology and Social Work are ranked second whilst a range of other courses have been named in the top five, including Business & Management (3rd), Civil Engineering (3rd), Mechanical Engineering (3rd), Chemical Engineering (4th) and Architecture (5th).

Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bath, said: “I am delighted to see Bath once again recognised for its excellence across the board.

“To have maintained our position in the top five of the latest Guardian guide suggests that our students continue to appreciate the all-round quality of what we offer at Bath. This success derives from a combination of our world-class research, excellent links with employers, superb facilities and the unstinting efforts of our staff.”

The Guardian’s performance indicators for judging a university consists of:

-       Final year student satisfaction, broken down into teaching, assessment & feedback, and overall experience.

-       A value-added score.

-       The ratio of staff to students.

-       The University’s expenditure per student.

-       The entry requirements students have to achieve to be considered for a place.

-       Students’ career prospects within six months of graduating.
