Update from Council - 22 Oct 2015

There was a full-day Council Strategy Meeting on 22 October.

The Vice-Chancellor gave a presentation on developing a revised University Strategy, followed by the Pro-Vice-Chancellors for Research and Learning & Teaching summarising key issues in their areas. There was also a discussion about the Estates strategy. 

Council members then discussed in groups the key issues facing the University. These will feed into further development of the new Strategy for 2016/17-2018/19.

The normal business meeting followed at 4.15pm at which the following issues were discussed:

Students’ Union: Council received a presentation on the Students’ Union Top Ten issues on which they would be working with the University this year.

The Vice-Chancellor gave a report on key issues for the University, including the University’s top ten ranking in the recent THE ‘Table of Tables’.

Admissions 2015: Council discussed the student intake figures and the issues these raised. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Provost thanked the Students’ Union and all the staff who had worked so hard at the start of term in particular.

National Student Survey (NSS) 2015: Council discussed the 2015 NSS results which were generally very positive. All departments were working with staff and students to produce and analyse results in Action Plans, which would feed into a wider University strategy.

Key Performance Indicators: Council noted an update on its Key Performance Indicators which monitored the core activities of the University, benchmarked against similar universities.

Human Resources: Council noted the annual report from the Acting Director of Human Resources and discussed issues such as staffing levels and staff development.

50th Anniversary – Council noted plans for celebrating the University’s 50th Anniversary in 2016.

Development – Council discussed the Development and Alumni Relations Annual Report for 2015/16 and a financial report on funds raised.
