Jamie Eastman appointed Director of Arts

Jamie Eastman has been appointed as our new Director of Arts.

Jamie Eastman joins us from Lancaster University on 4 April as our new Director of Arts

Jamie’s arrival on 4 April will see him take responsibility for the University’s creative arts programme engaging students, staff and local communities in the visual and performing arts.

Based at The Edge, the University’s new home for its arts activities, he will ensure Bath is at the forefront of exploring synergies between arts and academic practice, and how culture can work to promote a wide range of disciplines.

Jamie has an accomplished career in arts and culture most especially in contemporary art, performance and music. He joins Bath from Lancaster Arts, where he led Lancaster University’s arts and culture vision and secured major grant and funding relationships.

Prior to this, he was Curator of Performance at Arnolfini, Centre for Contemporary Arts, in Bristol and Head of Live Performance at the ICA, London. He began his career as a music industry professional.

Commenting on his appointment, Jamie said: "I’m extremely pleased to be taking up the post of Director of Arts from April. The expertise and knowledge I hold across art forms and of HE practice will inform my creative direction of the institution's new £10.9 million cultural centre, The Edge, and more.

"I look forward to engaging with students, staff, arts organisations and the wider constituency of Bath on this adventure, beginning with innovative activities that celebrate the University's 50th anniversary."

Steve Egan, Vice-President (Implementation) added: "Jamie’s arrival at Bath heralds an exciting time for the arts at The University of Bath in the year in which we celebrate our 50th anniversary.

"His energy, vision and eclectic mix of experience will help us make best use of The Edge and further enhance the huge contribution the arts already make to the life of the University and the community of Bath."

In the interim between the departure of outgoing Director John Struthers and Jamie’s arrival, Helen Fripp will be Acting Director of Arts.
