Professor Phil Willis retires after 37 years

Professor Phil Willis will be retiring at the end of March after 37 years at the University.

Congratulations to Phil Willis on your retirement!

Phil joined the School of Mathematics, as it was called then, in 1979 as a member of the Numerical Analysis and Computing group – the first practical computer scientist in today’s sense in that group.

He later led the Computing Group, as it had been renamed in 1983, for over six years. In 2001 it separated from Maths and became the Department of Computer Science.

Phil has served as Head of Department in both Departments for a total of nine years and for the last few years has been Director of the Centre for Digital Entertainment.

The Department would like to invite you to join Phil in the Claverton Rooms on Wednesday 16 March, 4-5.30pm. Please register online by 2pm on Friday 4 March.

A card for Phil will be in the Computer Science Department Office, 1W 3.51, for anyone who would like to sign it.
