Promoted to Senior Teaching Fellow

Congratulations to the following staff who have been promoted to Senior Teaching Fellow:

  • Dr Gan Shermer (Chemistry)
In addition to teaching on the organic and drug discovery courses, Gan acts as Admissions Tutor for the Department of Chemistry. She has led a number of funded, teaching development projects and regularly presents at STEM education conferences. Externally, she is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry Chemical Education Research Group and the Tertiary Education Group committees. She is also heavily involved in promoting chemistry and science in general through public engagement and outreach events.
  • Matthew Wickens (ACE)
Matthew’s teaching extends from co-ordinating Year 1 of the BSc Architecture, where he introduces students to the rudiments of design, to Year 2 of the MArch Architecture, six years later, where he tutors students in their last university based project, consistently receiving very good feedback from both cohorts of students. He has been Director of Studies of the BSc Architecture and was recently promoted to Director of Teaching for the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering.
  • Dr Fabio Nemetz (Computer Science)
Fabio has a sustained record of high quality, innovative, engaging and effective teaching in a wide range of Computer Science units. He is also a regular contributor to widening participation, giving talks and master-classes to different University programmes. As Director of Undergraduate Studies, Fabio introduced several innovations including Agile stand-up mini-SSLC meetings with student representatives. Focused on the development of the student experience, he received the Overall Above and Beyond Award from the student body in 2015-16 in recognition of the outstanding support and dedication received from him throughout the academic year.
