Warning: Bike thieves targeting secure shelters

In recent weeks the campus has been targeted by cycle thieves who have stolen a number of high value cycles from various locations, including secure cycle shelters.

Without exception, the stolen cycles had all been secured with ‘cable locks’, which are very easily compromised and pose no deterrent to thieves.

Security Services are able to provide ‘sold secure’ ‘D’ locks (see picture) for a subsidised price of £15.

The locks are available to staff and students from the Security/Reception desk in the Library.

Please ensure that you remain vigilant and be aware of persons who follow you in to any of the secure cycle shelters.

If you have any concerns at all then please contact the Security Control Room on 01225-385349 (non-emergency) or 01225-383999 (emergency).

Security Services are working closely with the local police to investigate the current spate of thefts.

Please be aware that the level of such thefts we have on campus is low, especially compared to other similar establishments. However, we are working hard to prevent all thefts but we need cycle owners to review their own security precautions.
