The University has risen five places from tenth last year and is the highest ranked university in the south west.

Other subjects ranking in the top 10 include architecture (2), business, management and marketing (2), chemical engineering (5), civil engineering (4), economics (9), electronic and electrical engineering (7), mechanical engineering (7), physics (10), social policy & administration (4), social work (2), sociology (2), sports science (6).

This achievement reflects the dedication of our staff and students and our continued investment in teaching and learning facilities. We are very proud of our high levels of student satisfaction and the exceptional career prospects of our graduates.

“It is particularly gratifying that the quality of our individual subject areas has also been recognised, with 13 subjects being ranked in the top 10 and five in the top three in the country.”

As in previous years student satisfaction and employment rates six months after graduation remain high.

The Guardian’s performance indicators for judging a university consist of:

  • Satisfaction with course
  • Satisfaction with teaching
  • Satisfaction with feedback
  • Student to staff ratio
  • Spend per student
  • Average entry tariff
  • A value added score benchmarking actual grades against expectations
  • Graduate employment after six months
