Attack in Manchester

Many of us will have woken up to the awful news this morning of the attack in Manchester Arena last night.

Our thoughts are with the people of Manchester, especially those who have lost their lives, people who have been injured, and their families and friends. We offer our deepest sympathies to all those affected.

Police have set up a hotline for those concerned about loved ones. You can call 0161 856 9400 or 0161 856 9900.

There is no indication at this stage that University staff or students have been injured. However, if you have been affected by these events, support is available from the University.

In addition to your line manager and HR contacts, we have an Employee Assistance Programme which offers additional support to those who may need it.

Support is also available for any students who have been affected through our Student Services Centre or by email If you are concerned about a student who may have been affected, please call 01225 38 4321.

Message from the Chaplaincy centre:

Following the Manchester bombing, a candle has been lit and a book of condolence opened at the VOW station in the Chaplaincy centre (to the East of the library down some steps).

All staff and students are welcome to come and spend a few minutes.

For anyone needing to talk a chaplain is available.
