National Student Survey 2017

The University’s students continue to be among the most satisfied in the UK according to the results of the 2017 National Student Survey (NSS), published today (9 August 2017).

Nine Bath programmes achieved an impressive 100% overall satisfaction with a further five receiving satisfaction ratings of 95% or above.

Bath’s overall satisfaction rating is 88.15% compared with a national average of 84.30% for UK Higher Education providers.

The top scoring courses were:

  • BEng(Hons) Electrical Power Engineering
  • BSc(Hons) Accounting and Finance with year-long work placement
  • BSc(Hons) Mathematics
  • BSc(Hons) Molecular and Cellular Biology with professional placement
  • BSc(Hons) Physics with year-long work placement
  • MEng Civil Engineering with year-long work placement
  • MEng Electrical & Electronic Engineering with year-long work placement
  • MEng(Hons) Aerospace Engineering with year-long work placement
  • MPharmacol(Hons) with year-long work placement

Professor Peter Lambert, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching) said: “Some of the brightest young minds from the UK and across the world come to Bath and rightly have very high expectations. We continue to strive to ensure our students receive the highest quality learning and teaching, are well prepared for their future careers and enjoy their time here. This is shown by our standing in numerous university rankings and most recently through our Gold Award in the Teaching Excellence Framework.

“Whilst our students remain among the most satisfied in the UK, we do recognise, of course, that there is room to improve. The reported overall decline in student satisfaction across the sector demonstrates how none of us can stand still. At Bath we will be working closely with our Students’ Union to address the areas which matter most to our students.”

The 2017 NSS received 304,851 responses from UK final-year students representing a national response rate of 68.33%.

The results of the national survey provide valuable information for prospective students, and help universities, colleges and students’ unions to further improve the education and services they provide.
