Implementing national pay award

A message from Richard Brooks, Director of Human Resources:

The process for negotiation on the basic pay uplift for 2017-18 opened on 30 March 2017. It comprises UCEA, representing the 148 participating employers, and the five HE trade unions (EIS, GMB, UCU, UNISON and Unite).

On 4 August 2017 UCEA advised its members participating in the pay round that the 2017-18 round was concluded and that they could implement the 2017-18 pay settlement. Four of the five trade unions have confirmed that they have accepted the final offer.

With effect from 1 August 2017 there will be a 1.7% increase on all single pay spine points, except from spine point 16 to the lowest point where this will taper up to 2.4%.

Details for each spine point are available on the University pay & grading structure web page.

The full agreement, which includes commitments to joint working on a range of important topics is available on the UCEA web pages.

We are working to implement this as quickly as possible and hope to have increases paid with August salaries.
