The Earl of Wessex said: “Universities are such important places for the development and transfer of knowledge. As Chancellor, I have spoken in depth to researchers who are working on solving problems that really matter to humanity.

“I have also had the pleasure of meeting numerous talented Bath graduates who have spoken with real passion about their studies, as well as the sporting, cultural and social opportunities they have experienced whilst at Bath.

“I look forward to continuing as Chancellor and playing my role in the University of Bath’s continued success.”

President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell commented: “From conferring degrees at graduation, to celebrating our 50th anniversary last year, the Chancellor plays a vital role as an ambassador for the University. I am delighted that His Royal Highness will be able to continue his role as an excellent advocate for us on the national and international stage.”

Under the University’s Royal Charter, the Chancellor is the Chief Officer of the University, confers degrees at graduation and otherwise represents the University.

The Chancellor is the ceremonial head of the University and one of its most prominent ambassadors.

As well as carrying out duties in support of The Queen both in the UK and abroad, His Royal Highness plays a very active role in The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, the programme for young people created by his father which now operates in 141 countries and territories around the world.

The Earl of Wessex is also involved with a number of charities and organisations, particularly those connected with the performing arts, sport and young people.
