Search for our New Vice-Chancellor

The Committee on the Office of the Vice Chancellor had the first meeting this week, chaired by the Chancellor, the Earl of Wessex. This starts the formal process and the Committee is very keen to ensure that we engage with all members of the University community and our stakeholders as we take this forward.

This is an important decision and one the Committee needs to take at a considered pace. It may well be the Autumn before a new Vice-Chancellor has been identified and 2019 before they are able to join us. We are following a simple project plan of which the main parts are:

  • Determining the requirement – not simply a job description, but engaging with our community to ensure that we, and potential candidates, fully understand the role and challenges for the University
  • Search – looking nationally and internationally to identify people who have the skills and experience to contribute what the University needs
  • Selection – longlisting, shortlisting, then working with candidates to determine the best fit between their abilities and our needs
  • Onboarding – managing the transition both for the University and the new Vice-Chancellor to ensure they are a success in the role.

The Committee has asked the Director of HR to blog throughout and we expect to be launching a broad engagement exercise in the next week.
