Major new industrial collaboration for the University of Bath

The University and EDF Energy have signed a five year ‘Research Framework Agreement‘ to provide a range of research and consultancy support for the Hinkley C supply chain.

It is the latest milestone in our partnership with EDF Energy, which resulted in the establishment of the Supply Chain Innovation Lab in March 2017. It connects business leaders, policy makers and academics to improve the management of supply chains within complex megaprojects; reducing cost and saving time.

A joint management board has been created as part of the agreement, consisting of representatives from the University, EDF Energy and associated stakeholders to discuss and identify innovative new projects, ideas and opportunities to maximise the positive social and economic impact of the Hinkley C development.

Professor Veronica Hope Hailey, Dean of our School of Management and Vice President of Corporate Relations said:

The signing of this agreement is a significant step in our partnership with EDF Energy to ensure the positive social and economic impact of big infrastructure projects such as Hinkley C are maximised and felt not just by the current generation, but for generations to come.

“This is one of the biggest infrastructure projects in Europe right now and through our research and education partnership we will create knowledge that will be valuable on a global basis to both governments and businesses alike.

“I’d like thank everyone for the work they have put into this.”

Jon Hunt, Director of Research & Innovation Services (RIS), said:

“This is a fantastic example of different areas of the University working together, in partnership, to achieve an outcome that brings intellectual benefit and wider societal benefits.”

“RIS worked closely with the Vice President of Corporate Relations and EDF Energy to negotiate this agreement and we’re delighted to be able to provide continuing support, from bid development to ensuring compliance with the legal contract.”
