Obituary - Peter Hill

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Peter Hill, Director of Human Resources in the University from 1984 to 2004.

Peter was a member of the team of University officers who played an important role in the University’s developing years. He contributed his professional guidance to the University’s planning and management, and his good humour made him approachable by staff from across the University.

Peter maintained his professional interests by representing universities at the Institute of Personnel Management, and he was a major player in what is now UHR - Universities Human Resources, the key organisation for HR professionals in higher education in the UK; he was a strong advocate and supporter of applying modern methods of CPD in the University.

A Somerset man though and through, Peter loved sport and was a Director of his beloved Yeovil Football Club, a passionate supporter of Somerset cricket and a snooker player of some renown.

Peter died peacefully at home on 23rd February as a consequence of a heart condition. In accordance with his and his family’s wishes the funeral will be private, but I know that many University colleagues will wish to remember Peter with fondness and respect.
