University closed on Friday

In view of actual and forecast weather conditions, the University will remain closed tomorrow (Friday 2 March 2018).  Unless already advised otherwise, all University lectures and other events are cancelled.

There is heavy snow forecast overnight and we recognise that, regardless of the amount of snow which falls during the day tomorrow (on which forecasts differ), this would make it very difficult for many staff to reach the campus.  We have consequently now taken the decision that the campus will remain closed all day on Friday as we realise that an early decision is helpful.  Key operational staff will already know whether they are required or not.  All other staff are not expected to attend for work.

The Library, Virgil Building and Carpenter House will remain open on card access with hot desk facilities and study spaces, primarily for students.  The Sports Training Village will remain closed.  Other University buildings with card access facilities will require card access to enter.  If you do come onto campus, please take great care.

Staff who are able to work from home are asked to do so.  I have been asked to clarify that when the University is closed staff do not need to take this as annual leave.

Please read the University’s:

· guidance on staying safe and well during adverse weather

· policy on staff attendance during adverse weather conditions

The Applicant Visit Day on Saturday has been cancelled.  All those booked to attend have been advised.
