University open as normal today (Thursday 1 March)

The University of Bath will be opening as normal today (Thursday 1 March 2018).

There has been a light covering of snow on campus overnight and it is currently (6.30am) snowing very lightly but snow is not forecast until later in the day and then only light snow.

In the event of heavy snow during the day a further announcement will be made.

Take care when walking around campus as thoroughfares and stairways can become slippery even with gritting if snow settles or thaws and refreezes.  Health and Safety advice is:

  • Walk – don’t run. Wear non-slip footwear. Allow more time for your journey, just as you would if driving
  • Try to leave hands free to aid balance and protect against falls
  • Stick to footpaths and avoid steep banks and inclines
  • Take care when walking or cycling up and down hills.

On no account attempt to walk on areas of frozen water, including the lake, which is extremely hazardous.

The usual advice on river safety is even more important in severe cold.
