Update on the Halpin review

As you know, last November, the University commissioned an independent, specialist Higher Education consultancy, Halpin Partnership, to conduct a full review of the effectiveness of the University of Bath’s Council and its committees, including the Remuneration Committee.

A wide range of our staff, students and other stakeholders contributed their views through a survey, group discussions and interviews conducted by Halpin Partnership.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took part in the independent review for expressing their views. It is incredibly important for Council to hear all views from our community and take the time to listen and reflect.

The finished report will be presented to Council at its meeting this Thursday (24 May). This Council meeting is scheduled to run into the evening on that date in order to consider this report and a number of other agenda items. It is right that our governing body considers the Halpin Review first, but we expect to publish the report in full, and our initial response to it, on Friday (25 May), subject to the approval of Council.

We expect the report to include a number of recommendations on how the University can improve its governance. It is a matter for the whole of Council to agree how to proceed. We are committed to sharing updates with you as we progress through this process.

Kind regards,

Thomas Sheppard
Chair of Council

Vice-Chair of Council
