Would you like to be Deputy Marshal?

The Deputy Marshal assists and deputises for the University Marshal on ceremonial occasions in the University.  Dr Tim Woodman, currently Deputy Marshal, has been appointed Marshal with effect from 1 October 2018, which creates a vacancy for Deputy Marshal from that date.

The Marshal and Deputy Marshal primarily lead the Marshal’s team for the Summer and Winter Degree Congregations.

The specific roles of the Deputy Marshal in these ceremonies are to lead a major part of the procession and to manage the flow of new graduates onto the stage to be congratulated by the Chancellor or Pro-Chancellor.

Thus a clear head and an ability to solve problems quickly and diplomatically are required.

It is expected that the Deputy Marshal will work with the University Marshal to raise the profile of the Degree Congregations amongst the academic members of the University.

The time commitment is expected to be up to 10 days per annum.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Tim Woodman: t.woodman@bath.ac.uk or extension 6778.

Expressions of Interest should be made to the University Secretary by 9 July 2018, leading to an expected appointment by Senate in time for the Winter Degree Congregations 2018.
