New University chaplain to be licensed

Angela Berners-Wilson, the first woman to be ordained as a priest in the Church of England, is to be licensed as University Chaplain and Ecumenical Team leader at the University of Bath at a special start of session service on Sunday 7 November.

Rev Berners-Wilson will be licensed by the Bishop of Bath and Wells, the Right Reverend Peter Price, at the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Darlington Street, Bathwick, to which students and staff of the University have been invited.

Rev Berners-Wilson started in September as the University Chaplain at the University of Bath. Previously she was Rector of Colerne and North Wraxall in the Diocese of Bristol, and before that had served as Chaplain at Thames Polytechnic (now Greenwich University) and Senior Anglican Chaplain to the University of Bristol.

Rev Berners-Wilson Angela was made Deaconess in 1979, Deacon in 1987 and ordained Priest in 1994.
