Bath students shortlisted for science & technology awards

Two Bath students were shortlisted for Britain's most important awards for science and technology undergraduates.

Ed Sells and Chia Huei Tan were each one of three students in their fields chosen from thousands across the UK in the SET awards.

Although neither won their categories, announced at the award ceremony last week in the Great Hall of Guildhall, London, achieving runner-up status is considered impressive.

Ed Sells was nominated for the GKN Award for the Best Mechanical Engineering Student. Ed was entered for his work with Dr Adrian Bower in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on a self-replicating rapid prototyping machine. He recently graduated with a first.

Chia Huei Tan was nominated for the BOC Group Award for the Best Chemical Engineering Student (See separate web page in Related Links section). She was working with Dr Semali Perera in the Department of Chemical Engineering on smart biopolymeric membranes for drug delivery.

The SET Awards are supported by British industry, and many of Britain's leading scientific and technical institutions. They provide a showcase for educational excellence by publicly recognising the exceptional achievements of both students and universities.
