Free public lecture: Crossing Greenland’s ice cap

Local people will get the opportunity to hear adventurer Sue Stockdale speak about her experiences while crossing Greenland’s ice cap at a free public lecture at the University of Bath next Wednesday (19 October).

Sue, the first British woman to walk to the Magnetic North Pole, was part of a team which brought together four virtual strangers, from three countries, to achieve one common goal – to ski 350 miles across the Greenland ice cap.

Using powerful images, Sue will describe some of the physical, mental and cultural challenges the two men and two women overcame as they placed their lives in each others’ hands for a month in the extreme environment of the Arctic.

“I aim to inspire others,” said Sue. “By drawing analogies between my own experiences and everyday life, people can learn skills to apply to everyday situations.”

Sue is a unique combination of people development specialist and polar explorer, enabling her to bring an additional perspective to her adventures. She set up Mission Possible in 1997 and works with business leaders across Europe focusing on motivation, leadership and entrepreneurship.

Her second book Secrets of successful women entrepreneurs: how ten leading business women turned a good idea into a fortune, was published on 11 October 2005.

Admission to the lecture is free, and people can just turn up on the evening. Free parking is available in the West Car Park. All GULP lectures run from 5.15pm until 6.15pm in the lecture hall 8 West 1.1 on the Claverton campus.
