Mark & Wayne run NY Marathon for Mencap

Two members of University staff, Mark Edwards from Computing Services and Wayne Roberts from Sports Development, will be taking part in the ING New York marathon on Sunday 6 November to raise money for the charity Mencap.

The New York City Marathon is generally regarded as one of the most famous road races in the world, and is now in its 36th year. The gruelling 26.2 mile course will take them through the streets of New York's five boroughs (Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan) whilst being cheered on by an estimated two million spectators. The route passes over five bridges, and finishes at the 'Tavern on the Green' in the world-famous Central Park.

This will be the first time either of them have undertaken a marathon, and both have been training hard for the last few months, in preparation for the big day.

The New York Marathon will be televised live on the day in the UK, and BBC Sport will almost certainly broadcast the event live on the internet for anyone wanting to follow their progress.

If you would like to sponsor them, please drop them an email. Alternatively if you wish to make a donation online, you may do so securely through the 'Sponsor Mark & Wayne' link under Related Links.
