No parking in C section of south car park from Thursday

Staff are requested not to park their cars in the C section of south car park as of Thursday 3 November as it will be required for setting up the fun fair for Firework Night on Saturday.

Free firework display on campus on Saturday

Bath’s only free public firework display this year will be the biggest ever, to mark the 400th anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot.

The event, organised at the University of Bath’s Claverton Down campus, will feature a funfair, two radio roadshows and circus acts, as well as the firework display.

A record 6,000 people are expected to attend the event, from 5pm to 11pm on Saturday 5 November, with the fireworks starting at around 8pm - 8:30pm.

The events is organised by Bath Area Rag, the fundraising charity run by students at the University of Bath. They hope to raise £20,000 this year, bringing the total raised by Rag students in Bath to well over £1 million since Rag began in 1967.

Although the event is free, Rag staff will be on hand to take a suggested donation of £4 from the guests, and the money will go to over 50 local and national charities.

“This year’s event is the largest fireworks display ever staged at the University, and the only free firework event in the city,” said Rag Chair Helen Reed.

“The funfair, circus acts and radio shows will ensure that the whole evening goes off with a bang, and not just the firework display.

“Everyone is welcome to come, as this is an event for the whole city to enjoy.”

The organisers have gained support among local people by inviting them all to a VIP reception and organising parking on campus rather than on nearby streets.

The roadshows will be provided by GWR and by URB, the University student radio station; their shows begin at 5pm. The circus acts are by Gravity Vomit, the University students’ juggling and circus skills club. The marquee will serve alcohol, and there will be several catering vans serving a variety of food.
