Free BASEM membership for Sport & Exercise Medicine students

Students enrolling on the distance and online learning programme in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of Bath will get one year’s free membership of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine (BASEM) thanks to an agreement reached between the two organisations.

The first arrangement of it kind, all new students enrolling on the Diploma/MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine will get one year’s membership paid for by the University’s School for Health, and will benefit from a reduced membership rate in future years.

BASEM members receive discounts on access to meetings and courses, access to the members’ website, a newsletter and the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

“We are pleased with this new arrangement because it forges closer links with the industry association, which has been growing rapidly over the past few years”, said Dr Tim Jenkinson, Clinical Director of the University’s SEM programme.

“It will encourage students to be become involved in both academic and applied sport and exercise medicine and it is important that we encourage students to publish their work in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.”

Dr Phil Bell, Membership Secretary for BASEM, said: “BASEM is delighted to have forged links with the University of Bath, and to help provide new, existing and alumni students with the benefits of membership of our organisation.

“We hope they will use these benefits to enhance the wonderful opportunity they have taken to study medicine's youngest speciality at such a professional institution.”

The course has twice yearly intakes in April and October.
