Internal News - 10 March 2005

Potential parking disruption

The 2005 UCAS Convention will be taking place on campus on Monday and Tuesday next week (14/15 March). Young people from schools and colleges from across the South West will attend the free event, visiting the various stands of different HE insitutions within the Sports Training Village before they have a general walk around the campus.

There will be in the region of 10,000 prospective university students attending the event who will be arriving and departing by coach at staggered times between 9am and 4pm and about half of East Car Park will be dedicated to the arrival and departure of the coaches.

The consequence of this additional traffic is that a considerable number of car parking spaces will not be available for the use of staff and visitors and there could be delays in getting onto campus due to the number of coaches.

Permit holders for the East Car Park will be able to use any equivalent value car park including A, B, and West car parks. There will be some overflow car parking on Eastwood Fields depending on the weather. However, please do not park on double yellow lines or obstruct other vehicles.

On Tuesday 15 March there is an additional event taking place in the Founders Sports Hall and this involves 350 secondary school pupils who will also be arriving by car and coach. A further pressure on the availability of car park spaces will be the likely result.

All members of staff are asked to car share where possible or arrive by public transport on both days.

Thank you for your patience and co-operation
