B&NES opens second consultation about The Avenue

Bath and North East Somerset Highways have advised the University that they are starting a second consultation about their previously published proposals to restrict traffic turning from the campus into the Avenue and vice versa.

The proposal is shown on the plan below. The change would have the effect of prohibiting a left turn off campus or a right turn from the Avenue, with an exclusion for University commercial vehicles.

B&NES' proposed scheme for the Avenue

The University previously opposed the scheme (October 2004) following representations from members of staff. The Department of Estates also indicated that it was unwilling to make the necessary land available to implement the original proposal. B&NES have indicated that they consider the continued use of the lane by University traffic 'dangerous' and are therefore reinstating consultation on a modified proposal which does not require the use of any University land.

Staff and students can contact B&NES with their comments via the link on the top left of this page. All representations must be received by 17 June 2005. It would be very helpful to those putting together the institutional response, if a copy of any corresondence is sent to
