Swindon-based Economics students set to graduate this summer

Work-based learning students from the Department of Economics & International Development have been celebrating successfully completing their final Economics (Finance) MSc exams.

John Cullis, Reader in Economics, responsible for organising the course said:

“This is the first time the department has delivered a work-based course and we’re really happy with the result. We travelled to Swindon weekly to give a two-hour lecture and made sure that tutors were always available to answer questions.”

The students, some of which are pictured, from Swindon-based RWE Trading, began the course in 2002.

“Although it’s been hard studying while working full-time,” said one of the students, “the course has been really flexible and the tutors very accessible even though we weren’t on campus.

“One of the good things about work-based study is that it means you can immediately apply what you learn. Each of the modules had elements that could be applied as soon as you left the classroom.

“I’m looking forward to graduating at Bath Abbey in the summer, an MSc from Bath – that’s a good combination.”

RWE Trading is a division of the RWE Group, a leading integrated energy company which supplies gas and electricity, low-cost coal, oil and gas-fired power stations. It is also the market leader in renewable energy production.

The Department of Economics & International Development is keen to deliver more work-based learning courses and is looking for partners in the Bath and Wiltshire area.
