Chloë wins essay competition

A Natural Sciences final year student at the University has won a national competition to write an essay on how physical sciences students can best learn.

Chloë Parnell’s essay was based on experiences gained during her research project Pharmacokinetics for Chemists, supervised by Dr Simon Bedford in the Department of Chemistry.

This showed how material taught in the context of drug discovery was a superior means for developing a greater understanding of kinetics and mathematics among students.

The Physical Sciences Student Awards 2005 is a national competition open to all undergraduates studying for a physical sciences degree; the £150 cash prize and certificate will be presented to Chloë at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh next month. The competition was set up to promote student competition and collect ideas for best practice by The Higher Education Academy-Physical Sciences Centre.

Chloë’s essay has been published on the Physical Sciences Subject Centre website (see related links section).
